Triple R has come a long way since their inception 40 years ago as the student radio station of RMIT University. Today they boast over 440,000 weekly listeners which runs independently out of their Brunswick East studio.

In celebration of one of Melbourne’s most iconic radio stations, the State Library of Victoria is hosting a three month exhibition showcasing the trials and tribulations of 3RRR.

On Air: 40 Years Of 3RRR, is set to launch Friday 18 November and will include live events and broadcasts from the Triple R team.

State Library of Victoria CEO Kate Torney called 3RRR’s history as “very much part of Melbourne’s story.”

The State Library which already archives decades of Australian and Victorian history will now be in possession of original artworks, photographs, posters, magazines and videos from Triple R.

Thanks to 3RRR’s subscribers, the station has been able to stay fully independent over its 40 year life-span.

Triple R’s yearly ‘radiothon’ is just around the corner. The subscription drive which funds more than half of the stations yearly costs, calls for the stations listeners to subscribe to a particular show or the station as a whole, to keep it running for another year.

If you wish to see Triple R remain independent and operational for another 40 years, make sure to subscribe and check out the exhibition at the State Library of Victoria.

On Air: 40 Years of 3RRR will run from the 18th of November until the 29th of January 2017.
