Morning TV are a fledgling lo-fi guitar-pop outfit from Sydney, who just released their debut EP, Golden.

Recorded in Sydney and mixed by Tim Fitz from Middle Kids, it packs a surfy, reverb-infused sound influenced by the  expansive surrounds of the Blue Mountains, Helensbough and the South Coast. The band have written a little about the EP below, detailing its creation.

The band have just been announced for Sydney’s Volumes Festival, August 26-27, alongside a killer lineup.

Sun’s Falling

‘Sun’s Falling’ was written predominantly by Tim, our guitarist. We were originally writing lyrics and working on a vocal melody for the track but decided that we really liked the song as an instrumental and kept it as is.

This is our opening track when we play live, and thought it would be fitting that it be our opening track on the EP.

Dive

Tim wrote ‘Dive’ a few years ago and we all really loved the song and wanted to add it to our collection. It was originally quite fast and when brought to the band and we all worked really hard on toning it down and making it suit what we had been doing at the time.

Brit changed up a lot of the vocal melody and lyrics. By the end of the process the song had changed so much to be a brand new product that we were really happy with.

Golden

About two or three years ago now Brit and Tim became buddies and had a jam and recorded some demos and ‘Golde’n was the first song we ever wrote together. I think to this day its probably our favorite song to play and we’re really happy with it. For Brit, ‘Golden’ is a celebration of her natural surroundings and almost a reflection on herself.

Like all of our songs, we recorded this song with Tim Fitz of Middle Kids. We’ve been good friends with Tim Fitz for years and Cam and Tim have recorded with him lots over the years. Golden was the first Morning TV song we recorded with him in his little suburban house in Chatswood.

Turquoise

This song was our most recently recorded track. We had a lot of fun recording this track, Tim had a lot of fun playing with guitar tones and Tim Fitz’s production of the track just made the track open up a bit.

Beat

This song was written by Brit mostly and is one of our less poppy tracks. When we recorded it we felt like something was missing and decided it needed a spoken word part in it, so Brit spent some time by herself writing and came up with a great little poem to put in the middle of it.

It worked so well in the track and gave us a finished product that we’re now really stoked on.
