Daniel Johns has been busy on the collab front recently. We recently shared a snippet of his new song with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder on vocals, a collab that came together thanks to the new animated series Beat Bugs.

Johns serves as musical director on the series, which was inspired by the music of The Beatles and has Johns collaborating with a range of star vocalists on covers of the Fab Four’s most famous songs.

The Silverchair frontman also recently unveiled a collaboration with Sydney producer Jake Meadows, but the one Johns collab everybody wants to hear still seems to be on ice. Or is it?

Back in 2008 The Sleepy Jackson and Empire of the Sun maverick Luke Steele revealed he’d been working with Johns on a new project at the latter’s home studio. “It’s pretty pop. I guess it’s quite low down, there’s country songs,” Steele said of the project.

Steele later told Pedestrian.tv that he is close to finishing a full-length album with Johns. In a 2013 interview, Steele said the project, entitled Hathaway And Palmer, was loosely “inspired by African music”, with the result “sounding a bit like The Clash, [a]bit Talking Heads”.

And that was the last we ever heard of it, with many assuming Hathaway And Palmer became one of those much dreamt-about rockstar collabs that got us all excited but fizzled out once the participants’ schedules intervened.

But there may still be reason to hold on to hope. Johns recently took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Steele, writing, “Early DREAMS cumin soon.” There’s no more info at the moment, but it looks like some music may finally be on its way.

Since Steele previously labelled the project “Hathaway and Palmer”, “Early DREAMS” is presumably the title of a new song, an EP, or if we’re lucky, a full-length album. Check out Johns’s post below.
