INXS are reportedly keen to record and play live again, following the success of the Never Tear Us Apart mini-series and its subsequent soundtrack album. The news comes on the heels of a spate of INXS-related projects.

As Tone Deaf recently reported, there are currently two separate Michael Hutchence documentaries in the works, one an authorised project spearheaded by the team behind Searching for Sugar Man and another set to be accompanied by unreleased Hutchence music.

There is also a musical based on the legendary Sydney band’s raft of hits, which is set to open in Sydney in 2017. The international theatre world’s biggest “creatives” are reportedly coming on board to write and produce the musical.

All this activity and renewed interest in the legendary Aussie group has now led to the band considering a full-on comeback, though it’s not yet clear what form that comeback will take or how they plan on performing live.

“Yes please,” Tim Farriss told News Corp when asked if he’s eager to make new music. “I still think Switch was an excellent record. That record showed that the songwriting abilities of Andrew and the band are still great, not the same, sure, but no less potent, poignant and catchy.”

“The song ‘Afterglow’ for example, is still a major hit that hasn’t happened yet.” Switch was the band’s 2005 comeback record with singer J.D. Fortune, who was recruited after competing on the reality series Rock Star: INXS.

According to News Corp, INXS manager Chris Murphy revealed a joint venture between his Petrol Records and Universal Music will back the band’s musical return, as well as a “live concert production”, which Murphy called a “fan event”.

It’s possible that he was referring to the upcoming theatrical production or maybe we’re all about to witness the indignity of the remaining members of INXS performing alongside a Michael Hutchence hologram.

Can we go on record right now and put a call out to anyone willing to stop INXS before they go ahead and record more new music? Can there just be no Ubers available in Sydney on the day they plan to record? Can the studio engineers just hide under the mixing desk and pretend no one’s home? Please?
