Brisbane’s Hey Geronimo have just come off their run around the country to celebrate the release of their debut album Crashing Into The Sun.

Following the first instalment of their tour diary that took us around Adelaide and Melbourne, the boys have put together a video as they hit Sydney’s Newtown Social Club and closed out the tour with a hometown show at Black Bear Lodge.

Week Two On Tour

Feeling refreshed after our week off, we assembled once again, this time in Sydney. At this point Sydney feels like a home town gig almost as much as Brisbane does – Pete and Pluto both live down there now – which means that we actually got to do two home town gigs in a row this tour.
It all felt a bit too easy getting to Newtown Social Club, so it was almost a relief when I found that my fuzz pedal was completely wrecked and basically unusable. It doesn’t feel like a gig unless something  somehow goes wrong! Luckily Henry, who does sound at the Newtown Social Club, managed to patch it together internally with super glue for the gig, warning that it would be probably only be good for one use only.
I think I speak for everyone in the band when I say that Newtown Social Club was probably the best gig we’ve ever played. The crowd was great, the vibe was unreal, and the support bands (Wasters and Wild Honey) were fantastic. And then we kicked on backstage for a few hours, consuming a wide range of legal and less-legal substances and generally being a nuisance – i.e. Acting like a rock band. We were staying with Pluto though so unfortunately trashing the hotel room afterwards wasn’t an option.
Our Brisbane show the following weekend was also really fun, but I think we were all a bit nervous due to a bunch of local musos who we admire being in the audience.  We started a bit sloppy but pulled it together as the set rolled on.  Anyway, it all went well in the end, and it was nice to finish the tour at Black Bear Lodge, which we have a lot of sentimental attachment to. It’s a great room with a great history and it sounds like the new owners are going to do great things with it!
So there we have it. Our album is well and truly launched. Thanks to everyone who came along to the shows, it felt so gratifying to have a room full of people singing along to our songs. Genuinely the best feeling in the world. Until next time!

Tour Highlights

Walking on to ‘Atlantis’ by Donovan in Sydney – what a tune. We did it in Brisbane too, but that was via Spotify so we were crossing our fingers that we didn’t get an ad half way through…
Pete forgetting the lyrics to ‘Crashing Into The Sun’ and needing to be reminded onstage half way through the song. Was actually a great moment!
Doing a legitimate encore (not one of those hammy pre-planned ones) in Sydney – we did a spontaneous, horrendously loose cover of ‘Burning Down The House’, complete with an entirely new, mostly improvised verse courtesy of Pluto.
