Just yesterday we reported that Empire of the Sun were teasing the release of their eagerly anticipated third album and the Aussie electro-pop duo have now announced the release of their follow-up to 2013’s Ice on the Dune.

Two Vines, as it’s called, will be released 28th October and features an absolutely star-studded cast behind its making. In addition to featuring our two heroes, Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, the album was co-produced by Peter Mayes (Sia, The Killers).

With recording taking place in Hawaii and Los Angeles, Steele and Littlemore tapped a gang of legendary musicians for the sessions, including none other than Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Wendy Melvoin of Prince and the Revolution.

As Pitchfork notes, the pair also sought instrumental help from pianist Henry Hey and bassist Tim Lefebvre, best known for their time in David Bowie’s Blackstar band. We don’t know about you, but all these names have us seriously excited.

You can check out a full tracklist for the album below as well as some new eye-catching artwork. ‘High and Low’ is said to be the first single from the album and you can sign up to the band’s mailing list to find out when that drops.

“There was an image we talked about very early on with this record, before we wrote the title track, ‘Two Vines,’ and that was this image of a modern city overtaken by jungle, almost like mother nature taking back the planet,” said Littlemore in a statement.

“All the buildings will turn back to sand. All it will be is nature again. We wanted to make something that reflected the beauty of that, and the wisdom that plants can give us about living harmoniously on this beautiful planet.”

Meanwhile, Steele added, “Going to Hawaii to record was the best idea. That was the catalyst for me. I’d spend the morning surfing, then roll in and make music into the night.”
