Empire of the Sun have unveiled the first single to be taken from their forthcoming new album, Two Vines. Entitled ‘High and Low’, the infectious new tune is everything we’ve come to know and love about Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore’s epic collaboration.

“It was about this girl I knew when I was a kid called Alice D who was kind of a wild child. She did all kinds of crazy things,” Littlemore said of the new song during an appearance on the Kevin & Bean radio show, shortly after the track premiered.

“There’s an Australian film called The Year My Voice Broke, I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but there’s a girl in that that kind of lives a mysterious life.”

“We wanted to write a song that captured the innocence and bravery of youth, and being a teenager, and having these kind of experiences where you throw caution to the wind and you try things for the first time.”

Two Vines will be released 28th October and features an absolutely star-studded cast behind its making. In addition to featuring our two heroes the album was co-produced by Peter Mayes, best known for his work with Sia and The Killers.

With recording taking place in Hawaii and Los Angeles, Steele and Littlemore tapped a gang of legendary musicians for the sessions, including none other than Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Wendy Melvoin of Prince and the Revolution.

The pair also sought instrumental help from pianist Henry Hey and bassist Tim Lefebvre, best known for their time in David Bowie’s Blackstar band. We don’t know about you, but all these names have us seriously excited.
