Laura Marling, UK singer-songwriter has released the first 2 episodes in what will be a 10 part podcast, Reversal Of The Muse in an attempt to delve into the reality of women in the music industry, namely gender imbalance in the recording studio.

In the second instalment in the series Marling speaks to Este, Danielle and Alana of Haim fame, alongside Ariel Rechtshaid, producer of the bands debut LP ‘Days Are Gone’. The group talk about their experience of being women in a male dominated music world, covering everything from touring and 90s music videos right through to the local guitar shop experience in which the sisters routinely deal with salesmen who have rarely seen a woman.

Meanwhile Rechtshaid shares his experiences about working with both men and women in the studios, the differences or perhaps more commonly the lack-thereof.

As triple j report, Marling states that the series aims to “establish why there is a real lack of female presence in the recording studio, and to discuss whether it makes any difference to the final outcome of the recordings.”
