Noise complaints are something of a blight on the live music community in Australia. Victoria’s made great strides in alleviating this problem with their groundbreaking agent of change laws, but they persist elsewhere in Australia and the world.

But a new crowdfunded device that admittedly seems too good to be true might have the solution. Muzo is a little silver box that you turn on when you want some peace and quiet or a little privacy. It essentially creates a force field of sound around you.

“Muzo utilizes Billionsound Technology (Powered by BST) to generate dynamic realistic sounds. These vivid sounds set the scene and drown out intrusive noises. Whether you wish to enjoy a piece of serenity or to become engulfed in the tranquil sounds of nature, Muzo will be there for you,” Muzo’s creators write.

We have no idea what “dynamic realistic sounds” or “BST” are, but essentially the device creates frequencies that block you from hearing outside noise or can block others from hearing your private conversations. Sounds too good to be true? It might be, but many have faith.

At the time of writing, Muzo has accrued $532,666 after setting a goal of just $100,000. But many are still skeptical, with one curious critic taking to Reddit to ask: “Wtf? Is this even possible?” Good question. We sure hope it is.

According to Muzo’s Kickstarter, the device has three modes. Serenity mode, to create a silent place by Anti-Vibration; Sleep mode, to achieve better sleep quality by Scene Creation; and Secret mode, to protect speech privacy by Sound Masking.
