Less than a year after an Elvis Presley acetate set the record for the world’s most expensive record at US$305,000, Fact Mag reports Guinness World Records’ 2017 edition has confirmed that record has been smashed.

As the outlet writes, Ringo Starr’s ridiculously rare, mint condition copy of The Beatles’ White Album, which had been stored in a vault for more than 35 years has now supplanted the record previously held by The King.

The record went for almost AUD$920,000 (£522,438) back in December. It was sold at Julien’s Auction House as part of a three-day auction of items owned by the former Beatles drummer, with all proceeds going to his Lotus Foundation.

So what makes the record so special? It’s a first edition copy of the iconic album, which famously featured a blank cover that simply read ‘The Beatles’ with a category number. The number on Starr’s copy is 0000001.

The identity of the buyer is not known but we suspect the record is now being used as a coaster in a palace somewhere in Dubai by a sheikh who forgot he even bought the thing until he found it in the glove box of his Bugatti Veyron.
