There are more and more places to go vinyl hunting these days, and while finding an obscure gem amongst the chaff is one of life’s great joys, there are few things more disappointing than trekking across the city only to find a shallow selection of greatest hits compilations.
Thankfully, Sydney producer Billy Fox was more than happy to take us on a guided tour of his hometown’s best spots to pick up those deep cuts. With a brief stop in the pub beforehand to consume the required liquid energy, Billy and crew got stuck into a big day of bin-diving at 567 King, Repressed Records, Resist Records and Mojo Record Bar.
Not only do we get to see inside a few of the city’s best record stores, but we also get a bit of insight into the eclectic array of music that goes into shaping an artist like Billy Fox, and a reminder that electronic producers weren’t all raised on a diet of beats.
With the vinyl hunt concluded, Billy will be wrapping up his East Coast tour this Saturday Sep 17 at the Rare Finds #19 at Oxford Art Factory, where he’ll be playing his new single ‘Avalanche’ – give it a spin below.
