Music videos can be some of the most shiny, polished, and seemingly-glamorous pieces of media you’ll find, but things tend to look a bit different once you’re able to peer behind the camera.

Fresh off blowing us away at BIGSOUND, Melbourne guitar maestro Harts has just dropped one such video for his new track ‘Power’, and it’s a very pretty few minutes.

To give us an insight into how a clip like this comes together, he’s given us a rundown of the day, as well as some gorgeous behind the scene shots of he and his various co-conspirators going about their business.

‘Power’ is out now, and is taken from his upcoming album Smoke Fire Hope Desire, which will be released this Friday via Dew Process/UMA.

Behind The Scenes Of ‘Power’

“We wanted to make a performance based clip,” Harts tells us, “the intention interlacing with symbolic imagery of the song’s message and meaning. The director’s concept and execution of this idea was great, which made it a really fun video to shoot. And that jacket was fire hot… Literally.

“Compared to the process of songwriting and producing the process of shooting music videos is still very new to me. I haven’t really had too much experience doing music videos, this being my 3rd proper one I’ve ever shot, but I was glad to have the opportunity to get back into it for the song ‘Power’, and It was exciting. Working with the director, Nima made it all the more enjoyable as he had a clear vision in mind, and a really effortless and efficient approach to achieving the results. Every shot was done in a day.

“Music videos can feel a little uncomfortable for me, with the miming and such but honestly as the day progressed, filming all those performance shots, i got more comfortable with the directors style and that allowed me to trust his judgment and not hold back on the performance. I’m glad i did, cos all those shots turned out great.

“It was also a little practice for me performing the song in that fire hot red jacket, so if I whip it on stage next time, it’s not gonna hold me back!”
