Dune Rats have pretty good taste in bands we reckon, having signed fellow Aussie trio Skegss to their label Ratbag Records, which they founded last year.

They followed that signing with another punk trio, this time Molly from Denmark, and the story behind that signing was typically Dunies, all beginning with a chance meeting on their European tour.

Having just dropped their new self-titled record, now is an ideal time to get to know Molly a bit more, and thankfully Skegss were more than happy to help by chatting to their labelmates for us. We’ve always had our suspicions that Skegss could easily pivot into the field of serious journalism, and after reading this hard-hitting piece, we’re absolutely convinced.

For more from these guys, you can listen to Molly’s new record below, or get it now from iTunes. Skegss on the other hand have just wrapped up a sold-out national tour, but you can catch them for one more gig at Yours & Owls festival.

And just a head’s up: around about question nine, there’s some pretty graphic imagery on the way. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Skegss Interview Molly

Were you guys on heaps of drugs for the ‘Bagu Bagu’ video? You look really fucked up. Nice Song.

The official policy of the organization Molly is that drugs are bad for both health and economy. Anyway, how we make our stuff is a business secret so it’s up to you to figure out. Plus, it’s fiction and we’re all pretty good actors.

What was the thought process that went into that video?

That’s actually a funny story. While we were recording for the album Peach Melba, we spontaneously decided to make a video for ’Bagu Bagu’. There wasn’t really any thought process going on because we were completely wasted at the time. As you can see by the result, making the video was expensive as fuck; getting penguins, airplanes, rollercoasters etc on the film set. High budget stuff!

What are your favourite Australian Bands? Where are you guys from again?

So far we have only heard Skegss and Dune Rats. It definitely has potential. Practice a bit more, then you’ll make it to the top. We’re from Copenhagen, Denmark. People outside Europe often think of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and the rest of Europe as one big country. It’s alright.

Have you guys travelled outside of Europe before? Are you coming here?

We’ve only been outside of Europe for pleasure. Right now we’re working hard to get down under to you guys. Stoked to see how Ratbag Records and Dunies are pushing us in Australia right now, so we’re putting a lot of work into getting on that plane. We’ve heard about all that cool stuff going on down there, so it’s a big dream to go see kangaroos, swim with sharks and stuff.

We are both on Ratbag Records, are you guys on the same $10000000 deal as us?

Well.. We only had to pay them $50,000, so I guess we’ve got the better deal. We also play faster than you, so I guess it’s kind of fair?

How old are you guys? Our guess is between 14 and 35?

Nice. 26, 28, 29.

What genre of music or specific band do you guys hate?

In general just any music under 180 BPM. You guys and Dunies are pretty cute though, so no hate there. Just sympathy. No, seriously, there’s a lot of bad music out there, but we don’t hate anything.

How would you stereotype an Australian?

Just spent a day making this awesome illustration:

If you do come over lets play a gig….. Bye.

Cool! Would love to. Guess we’ll have to sell out a stadium or two to cover expenses. We’ll arm wrestle to decide who’s headlining and who’s supporting. See you!
