A founding member of one of the prototypical Australian punk bands Radio Birdman, the Michigan-Born Deniz Tek is back with his new solo album, Mean Old Twister.

His last solo work came on 2013’s Detroit, and the new album features much of the same team behind it, including drummer Ric Parnell – best known for his work in Spinal Tap and Atomic Rooster – as well as long-time collaborator Bob Brown on bass, and Radio Birdman bandmate Rob Younger working on the mix.

As expected from an outfit like this, it packs a slab of high-powered electric attack into its twelve tracks, kicking right off with the vintage tones of opener ‘Burned Black’ or the dirty riffs of ‘Prison Mouse’, while ‘Corner Conversation’ adds a dash of acoustic melodicism.

Mean Old Twister will be released this Friday through Citadel Records, and Deniz will be launching the record at Sydney’s Factory Floor on Friday October 7 and Newcastle’s Cambridge Hotel Front Bar on Saturday 8.
