Nick Littlemore, best known as one half of Empire of the Sun and PNAU, has revealed he’s launched his own independent record label and is christening it with a series of collaborative projects, including one with Vera Blue.
Entitled The 2 Leaves Project, Littlemore told The Music the label and the project are a way to “give back” to music. “Music has been so incredibly giving to me and that’s why I’m trying to give back now I’ve just started a small independent record label,” he said.
“I’m starting to make collaborative albums with all sorts of people… I’m trying to give – not only [to] people who haven’t had many opportunities … [I want] to do something different and something freer and not so commercially driven… it’s more about the beauty of music.”
Littlemore gushed about Vera Blue, real name Celia Pavey, who recently spoke to Tone Deaf for an upcoming feature, calling her a “musical angel” and revealing that he’s wanted to work with the singer since discovering her “five, six years ago”.
Both Littlemore and his Empire of the Sun bandmate Luke Steele have been busy on the collaborative front in recent months, in addition to completing the latest Empire of the Sun record, Two Vines, which is out next month.
Littlemore has been working with The Vines frontman Craig Nicholls in White Shadows, whilst Steele is reportedly putting the finishing touches on a long-awaited collaboration with former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns.
“Me and Dan have been in a studio in L.A. for the last two months and we’ve just been working on our record and it just sounds like the future. We’re gonna be coming out with something pretty amazing,” Steele recently told triple j.
However, neither the Steele-Johns project nor Littlemore’s 2 Leaves projects have solid release dates just yet. According to The Music, Littlemore’s collaboration with Pavey is set to drop some time in the coming weeks.
