Study the list below very carefully, because one of those talented homegrown musos is about to be declared the finest songwriter in Australia and given $50,000 as part of this year’s Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition.

The award is presented annually by APRA AMCOS, who are celebrating 90 years of existence this year, and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia (NRMTA), to honour a distinguished Aussie songwriter and raise money for NRMTA.

Some 3,934 entries were submitted, which has since been culled down to 90, with entries from the likes of Sampa The Great, Tash Sultana, Josh Pyke, Client Liaison, Jarryd James, L-FRESH THE LION, Urthboy, The Paper Kites, and more.

The first prize is A$50,000, courtesy of APRA AMCOS and Alberts. Second prize is A$10,000 thanks to AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association), and third prize is A$5,000 courtesy of sponsor AEG Ogden. All winners take home a microphone prize pack from Shure.

The three prize winners will be announced on 27th October 2016. Check below for the full list of Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition 2016 finalists.
