How is the apocalypse supposed to go again? It’s meant to rain frogs and blood, a child born on the sixth hour of the sixth day of the sixth month is meant to appear… oh, and The White Stripes are supposed to reunite, right?

Well, we haven’t heard any reports about it raining frogs and the jury’s still out on just who the antichrist might be, but Jack and Meg White have banded together for the first time since announcing their dissolution in 2011 and it’s because of Donald Trump.

If anyone can bring forth an apocalypse, it’s that guy.

Unfortunately we still won’t be hearing any new music from the Detroit duo, but the members of The White Stripes have issued a rare joint statement condemning presidential nominee Donald Trump for his “illegal” use of their signature song.

“Regarding the use of ‘Seven Nation Army’ in a Donald Trump campaign video, The White Stripes would like to unequivocally state that they have nothing whatsoever to do with this video,” the band have said in a statement via Third Man Records.

“They are disgusted by this association, and by the illegal use of their song.” In addition to being the first thing Jack and Meg have done together in five years, the statement makes The White Stripes the latest band to hit out at Trump.

Several prominent bands and artists, including Neil Young, who announced an Australian tour and Bluesfest performance this morning, have slammed Trump for using their music or for just generally being an ignorant clown.

However, as Consequence of Sound notes, it’s not quite clear just what campaign video Jack and Meg seem to be referencing. There was a fan-made Trump video that went viral earlier this year, but it was not officially associated with Trump’s camp.
