The jam-packed program for Melbourne Music Week 2016 was announced yesterday morning and sitting hidden in a particularly quiet corner of the program was an event entitled Hush: An Evening of Quiet Music.

For those unaware Hush is basically what we’ve been advocating for years now. It’s a gig held in a beautiful and unique space with a quality lineup and under no circumstances are you allowed to talk during the performances.

“The audience must remain pin-drop silent,” a statement from Hush organisers reads. Yep, talk whilst the performers are at work and you will be removed. Of course, Hush is a social experience too.

Think of it like a tennis match. “Feel free to talk and stir between ‘the sets’ but while the acts are playing please keep quiet. It’s this atmosphere that allows the artists to try unusual things that would be impossible in a rowdy pub,” Hush write.

The first ever Victorian edition of Hush is set to take place at Melbourne’s Parliament House with a lineup featuring Dan Kelly, Teeth & Tongue, Melody Pool, Sui Zhen, Jess Ribeiro, Grand Salvo, Man Made Mountain, The Grand Magoozi, and Hush co-creator Davey Craddock.

Craddock and triple j presenter Stacy Gougoulis launched Hush after growing tired seeing their favourite artists’ performances ruined by “noisy idiots talking up the back”. We know exactly how you two feel. Believe us.
