Fresh from their recent collaboration with The Weeknd, Daft Punk have launched a website potentially teasing a world tour. Or have they?

Following the rumours that surfaced last month stating that Daft Punk could be playing Lollapalooza, a mysterious website named ‘Alive 2017’ has been launched. Containing nothing more than the word ‘Alive’ and a small countdown clock, it’s little to go on, but fans have gone a bit deeper.

Delving into the source code of the website, fans have discovered some interesting information. Namely, a message in the form of a ‘transmission’ from ‘Shep’, one of the characters from Daft Punk’s ‘Interstella: 5555’ film.

The message is a bunch of coordinates that correspond to locations in Paris, Los Angeles, London, New York, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Ibiza, and Indio, California, best known as the location of Coachella. As yet, there is no news if James Murphy’s house is included on their list of potential stopovers.

Now, if you were to think about it, an Alive 2017 tour would make sense. After all, the group’s previous ‘Alive 1997’ and ‘Alive 2007’ albums started a trend that this website could be following up on.

However, eagle-eyed fans have taken to websites to disprove the validity of this mysterious site, including one IT guy who took to Reddit to say that it’s a prank.

Through his experience, he states that there’s a bunch of red flags, including the fact that the site uses an LA-based domain name that was purchased last month, and that it looks as though it is hosted through a public server.

We don’t really know what any of that means, but it does cast some doubt on the believability of the site.

While we’re still waiting for Daft Punk to make their third trip to Australia after their 1998 and 2007 tours, we’ll need to wait until the site’s countdown ends on October 27th to see if our hopes were raised for good reason or not.
