If you’re anything like us, you were crushed when the management of the Shadow Electric bandroom at the Abbotsford Convent announced they would be ceasing operations back in July.

The 300-cap room was noted for hosting Courtney Barnett’s first ever sold-out show, as well as performances from the likes of Kurt Vile, Mac DeMarco, and countless other local and international acts.

But after months of despair, we now have reason to celebrate. Shadow Electric have announced a brand new summer project entitled Shimmerlands, at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus.

Shimmerlands, billed as Shadow Electric’s “most audacious endeavour”, will live at Melb Uni’s Parkville campus for two months, presenting a stellar bill of live music and cinema.

Brooklyn favourites Parquet Courts will christen the new venue on Thursday, 5th January with a lineup also featuring Tyrannamen, Ausmuteants, and Nicky Crane, plus DJs Etta & Tilly.

With more information still to come, we know that in addition to live music, Shimmerlands will feature an al fresco dining area with offerings from some of Melbourne’s finest restaurants.
