Daniel Johns has teased a snippet of previously unheard music and as far as we can tell, it’s the latest addition to his rapidly expanding solo discography, which already boasts an EP and a full-length album.

Johns shared the snippet via Instagram and it sounds very similar to the minimalist electronic work Johns showed off on his debut solo album, Talk, on which the former Silverchair frontman established himself a Chet Faker-esque electronic crooner.

In the meantime, we’re still waiting on the collaboration between Johns and Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Empire of the Sun. The two have been sitting on an apparent collab record for some time.

Speaking recently to triple j ahead of the release of Empire of the Sun’s new album, Steele revealed, “Me and Dan have been in a studio in L.A. for the last two months and we’ve just been working on our record and it just sounds like the future. We’re gonna be coming out with something pretty amazing.”

Back in 2008, Steele revealed he’d been working with Johns on a new project at the latter’s home studio. “It’s pretty pop. I guess it’s quite low down, there’s country songs,” Steele said of the project.

Steele later told Pedestrian.tv that he is close to finishing a full-length album with Johns. In a 2013 interview, Steele said the project, entitled Hathaway And Palmer, was loosely “inspired by African music”, with the result “sounding a bit like The Clash, [a] bit Talking Heads”.

Earlier this year, Johns took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Steele, writing, “Early DREAMS cumin soon.” Between Johns’ Instagram post and Steele’s interview, there’s no more info at the moment, but it looks like some music may finally be on its way.
