Fans of Sydney punk band Dispossessed, who describe themselves as “an indigenous anti-colonial political project”, have managed to raise more than $10,000 in a day to help the group after $7,000 worth of gear was stolen from them.

As Tone Deaf reported yesterday, the band’s rig, which included several guitars, drum kit pieces, and pedals, were stolen following a performance in Sydney over the weekend. The gear was taken outside the Factory Theatre in “black gear bags”.

Lead singer Birrugan Dunn-Velasco took to GoFundMe in the hopes of raising some money to help replace the gear. The campaign hit the halfway mark in just three hours. At the time of writing, the crowdfunding campaign has managed to raise just over $10,000.

“Thank you all for donating/sharing and for your overall support. We are seriously blown away,” the band wrote on Facebook. “Really appreciate all the mob getting behind us and showing your love for us in a dark time,” they wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“Wanna say big thank you to the supporters and fam who donated to us mob. Feel hopeful that we can keep on keeping on, darrendang.” Though the band have now surpassed their $10K goal, you can still donate via GoFundMe here.
