If you’ve never seen one of Jimmy Kimmel’s Lie Witness News segments, they basically involve Kimmel sending his news crew down to hip events like Coachella and SXSW and interviewing punters about fake bands.
They operate under a simple but brilliant premise: hipsters and young people in general will basically go along with anything you say if the alternative is looking uncool. That’s why you see Coachella punters confirming that they will be seeing artists like MC FroYo.
Most recently, Kimmel sent his crew down to speak with a bunch of Kanye West fans and shared with them a major exclusive: the latest line of Yeezy shoes. Except it wasn’t the latest line of Yeezys, but an ugly pair of shoes purchased at a discount store for $12.50.
Sure enough, everyone they spoke to thought they were excellent and very smart-looking shoes. If we’re being frank, we almost felt a little mean as we watched one Yeezy fan nibbling on what he was told were groundbreaking “edible laces”… only for a second though.
