Nine Inch Nails fans have pretty much been on their toes since August when an apparent record label leak confirmed an upcoming single from the industrial powerhouse, which was purportedly meant to come out the following month.

That didn’t end up happening. But all of the talk concerning the imminence of new Nine Inch Nails music has been very positive. Project leader Trent Reznor recently hinted that new NIN music may be out before the end of the year.

2016 is not over yet,” Reznor wrote on Instagram, and in a new interview with Zane Lowe the very busy Reznor revealed he has indeed been “working on some Nine Inch Nails stuff” with nothing but positive things to say about the proceedings.

“Things are going good, and when we have something that we think is excellent we will unleash it upon the world,” he said. Reznor was speaking to Lowe to promote Leonardo DiCaprio’s new climate change documentary Before the Flood.

As Consequence of Sound reports, Reznor worked on the score for the new doco, once again linking up with producer and composer Atticus Ross, with whom Reznor has worked on several projects, including the Social Network score.

“We knew we were really busy, but we also knew we had to do it,” Reznor said of the documentary project. “It was a wonderful experience.” Reznor said part of what appealed to him about the film was its “threads of optimism”.
