In fact, there’s a whole new crop of singer-songwriters who are set replace the old guard with their fresh, new outlook on music. In light of this, we’ve decided to have a look at some of the leading artists in the singer-songwriter genre in Australia right now.

For his part, Josh will be capping off the launch of new single ‘Wishful Imagery’ tomorrow night at Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar.

Josh Cashman

Josh Cashman has been taking Australia by storm recently. Having been on a national tour with Tash Sultana recently, his profile has been rising significantly. Influenced by some of Australia’s favourite musicians, such as Matt Corby, Sticky Fingers, and Boy And Bear, you know that Josh is Cashman’s music is coming from a good place.

Considering how fast his star has been rising lately, he’s starting to get a lot of fans in Australia keen for him to drop an EP or album sometime soon.

Robbie Miller

Robbie Miller’s been around for a few years now, and was brought to our attention in 2013 after being crowned Australia’s best unsigned indigenous act by triple j Unearthed’s partnership with the NIMAs.

Since then, he’s released a lot more music and captured our attention and hearts with his gorgeous rendition of Odesza’s ‘Say My Name’ earlier this year. Miller’s soulful approach to music has been gaining him fans all over the country, and this is bound to continue as he continues to make music.

Tash Sultana

There isn’t much to say about Tash Sultana that hasn’t already been said. From her early days as a busker in Melbourne, to sold out shows both here and abroad, Tash is an unstoppable force. Her unique approach to music has been winning her thousands of fans worldwide while her phenomenal live shows have been blowing away eager fans everywhere she goes.

Tash Sultana is one of Australia’s best examples of how homegrown singer-songwriters are able to translate their success onto the global market.

Dustin Tebbutt

Dustin Tebbutt captured our hearts a few years ago with his delicate vocals and tender guitar playing on ‘The Breach’ from his debut EP in 2013. That EP went gold in Australia and even earned him an award for the J Awards.

Now, 3 years later, he’s released his debut album and has been playing to crowds worlwide. Having been compared to artists like Bon Iver has likely helped to greatly increase Tebbutt’s popularity both here and abroad, but the fact of the matter is that Dustin Tebbutt is a unique musician in his own right who is more than happy to carve his own path.

D.D Dumbo

Back in 2013, fans who heard D.D Dumbo’s Tropical Oceans EP were shocked when they went along to his shows and found out that D.D Dumbo wasn’t a band, but in fact a one-man musical project who creates some of the most interesting and intricate sounds possible.

Signing to 4AD records in 2014 has lead to D.D Dumbo recording and releasing his most recent album Utopia Defeated to great critical acclaim. Sahara Beck

Despite having only been on the music scene since 2011, Sahara Beck has achieved more than many artists will achieve in a lifetime. From recording her first EP at age 15, to recording with george frontwoman Katie Noonan and Adelaide’s own worldwide superstar Sia, Sahara Beck could probably quit music now and be pretty happy with how her career was.

Thankfully, she’s not planning on that yet, instead she’s content with continuing to make more of that amazing music we fell in love with her for.
