Having recently signed to Pilerats Records, Fremantle quartet Hideous Sun Demon have returned with an absolute belter of a record in new album Industry Connections.

Brutal and heavy, it’s no surprise that the record pricked up a few ears during the recording process, which took place on a remote island in WA.

“We suffered from noise complaints from across the river,” says Jake Suriano. “I remember seeing cops waving at us from the other side, which meant we had to stop live tracking and throw up mattresses for sound proofing. Also, a giant bush moth flew into the house while we were recording, and were continually being freaked out by possums running around in the roof.

“We were fortunate enough to get an island dweller named Ted to help us take our gear back over the river once we had finished…. It was pissing down with rain, so cheers to Ted!”

Living up to its title, the record has been mixed by none other than King Gizzard’s Stu Mackenzie, and he’s done a great job wrangling an enormous sound. From the opening track, Hideous Sun Demon are an unstoppable machine, pumping out huge, crunchy riffs from every angle and barely stopping to take a breather.

Industry Connections is out today on Pilerats Records/Warner Music, and to celebrate the release, the group will be playing an album launch show this Saturday at Perth’s Jack Rabbit Slims, ahead of their slot at Southbound Festival, December 27-29.
