triple j’s Ausmusic Month celebrations are underway and with that comes the announcement of this year’s J Award nominees. 2016 has yielded a fine crop of artists, from well-established juggernauts like Violent Soho and Flume, to up-and-comers like Julia Jacklin.

Last year saw unofficial Aussie ambassador Courtney Barnett take out the highly coveted Australian Album of the Year gong for her debut Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, whilst Tired Lion picked up the Unearthed Artist of the Year award.

This year’s Album of the Year nominees include releases from The Avalanches, Big Scary, Camp Cope, D.D Dumbo, Flume, Julia Jacklin, Montaigne, and more, whilst King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and The Drones are among those up for Double J Australian Artist of the Year.

You can check out the full list of 2016 J Award nominees below. The winners will be announced at the J Awards and broadcast live on triple j from 4pm Thursday, 17th November and you can be sure we’ll have the full list of winners as soon as they’re announced right here on Tone Deaf.
