It’s been a massive 48 hours for triple j. Yesterday, beloved triple j Breakfast hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson announced that they would not be returning to host the popular morning slot in 2017, with Okine leaving to focus on music and television and Dyson looking to travel and concentrate on writing.

The dust had barely settled on the news when the national youth broadcaster announced Okine and Dyson’s replacements. Earlier today, triple j announced that starting Monday, 9th January 2017, the Breakfast show will be taken over by Adelaide radio presenters Ben & Liam.

They’ll be joined by journalist Brooke Boney, who’ll be delivering regular news broadcasts in place of Ruby Jones, who’s moving to the afternoon time slot. There’ll also be regular appearances from ‘Australian Paralympian of the Year’ Dylan Alcott and comedian Gen Fricker.

And speaking of Fricker, according to an official statement from triple j, the comedian and current Weekend Arvos host will be taking over Lewis McKirdy’s Lunch spot. Yes, not only are we losing Matt and Alex from the morning, Lewi McKirdy’s dulcet tones will no longer be taking us through lunch.

According to the network, McKirdy, who’s something of a cult figure amongst triple j fanatics, is heading over to the UK after six years as the host of triple j Lunch. As triple j listeners will know, he’s also the host and producer of Mix Up and a new Mix Up producer is set to be announced soon.

We’re sorry to see you go, Lewi.
