When Neil Young was announced as part of the mammoth Byron Bay Bluesfest 2017 lineup back in October, fans got an extra bonus in the form of a promised headline tour from the Canadian great. But now Frontier Touring, who initially announced the tour, have confirmed Young’s headline trek is no longer going ahead.

Shortly after the Bluesfest announce, Frontier confirmed Young and his band, Promise of the Real, would be playing headline shows in Australia and New Zealand. The performances would have marked Young’s first shows Down Under in four years. Dates, venues, and ticket details were said to be on their way “soon”.

A Facebook update on the official Frontier Touring page seemed to point to 12th October for an announce, but now the touring company says no Neil Young headline Australian tour will be taking place. Unsurprisingly, fans had been asking questions about when the dates and details would drop for some time.

“Unfortunately we’ve been unable to reply until this point for reasons out of our control but we are able to now confirm that Neil Young won’t be announcing an Aus/NZ tour anymore,” Frontier wrote in response to one fan who was upset over the radio silence regarding Young’s tour.

Earlier today Frontier made things official via their Twitter account, telling legions of saddened Australian fans, “We regret to advise that Neil Young will unfortunately no longer be undertaking a 2017 AU/NZ headline tour as previously teased on socials.”

Young was initially slated to perform headline dates in both Australia and NZ, including indoor arenas and special outdoor shows, in addition to his appearance at Bluesfest 2017. Young is still listed as a performer on the Bluesfest website. Tone Deaf have reached out to Bluesfest for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
