The Smith Street Band recently unveiled their lively new single, ‘Death to the Lads’, which serves as the first taste of the band’s eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2014’s Throw Me in the River. Speaking recently to triple j, the band revealed the album will drop early next year.

“We just got back about a week ago from recording it; we recorded it in the States, and then it’ll come out early next year,” drummer Chris Cowburn told the station. The band announced the highly anticipated album was finally ready back in September.

“Yeah, we haven’t announced any of that properly… but we’re releasing it on our own new record label that we’ve just started,” Cowburn explained. The band announced the launch of their new record label earlier this month, which will be an outlet for their own releases and those of their pals.

“Then we’ll hopefully go and release other stuff – it’s called Pool House Records, check it out,” said Cowburn. “That’s a big thing that we’ve done, a big change. We’ve always been pretty independent but now we get to do stuff even more independently.”

Details on the next Smith Street record are scant, but in an interview with Medium earlier this year, the band revealed that “11 new songs” have been written since Throw Me In The River, the band’s acclaimed third album, was released two years ago.

Some of the songs have apparently made their way into the band’s live set and their soundcheck, so if you’ve checked out a Smith Street show in the last 12 months or so, you may have caught a glimpse of their fourth full-length album.
