If there’s one thing we all love, it’s an Aussie success story, and it’s made even better when that success translates to the world stage. Such is the case of Australian artist Emmi.

A Perth-born singer now based in London, Emmi’s profile has been rising for a little while now, and she recently had not only her voice featured in the new Harry Potter film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, but also ended up making it onto the screen as well.

Starting rather mysteriously, the singer was chosen by the film’s director David Yates last year to sing the J.K. Rowling-penned song, with almost no other information being given to her. ‘I knew the song was called ‘Blind Pig’ but I had no idea why because there’s no mention of a pig in it,” said Emmi, who recorded the song back in August of 2015.

“I now know it’s because that’s the name of the speakeasy but I found that fact out online like everybody else. I thought it was some codename to cover up what the song was about. It’s been like a hilarious mystery.’

Emmi soon began to understand how much of a big deal the song was when she rocked up the Abbey Road Studios to record the track, only to find herself on a movie set, covered in motion-capturing green lycra.

With her performance of the song motion-captured, Emmi’s movements were then gifted to a computer-generated goblin, who performs the song onstage at the titular Blind Pig.

That’s right, a triple j Unearthed artist managed to appear in the finished version of the blockbuster film. Sadly, there were no close ups or lines to learn for Emmi, but the fact remains that the newest film in the Harry Potter franchise features an Aussie singer, whose profile is undoubtedly set to grow after this.
