Fence-jumpers and music festivals sadly go hand in hand, but one Aussie festival is saying “no more” to punters trying to .

Arcadia Australia already made some headlines a while back due to the inclusion of a 50 tonne, fire-breathing mechanical spider, but it was the novel approach to fence-jumpers that had tongues wagging recently.

The festival’s Australian debut took place in Perth over the weekend, with a no tolerance approach to fence jumpers coming along for the ride. The festival increased their barriers, in addition to ramping up the presence of police and security for the event.

Additionally, “a two-storey high sea container wall will be erected along The Esplanade road front instead of fencing to create an impenetrable perimeter,” The Event Agency said. “A new type of non-drying lubricant ink will be trialed along double fence lines to create a non-grip slippery surface that temporarily stains hands and clothing for up to three weeks, making it easier to identify any trespassers who breach the perimeter fence.”

While we’re not sure if the special ink was coloured red for the sole purpose of saying they caught offenders red-handed, we’re equally confused as to why organisers didn’t just threaten to feed offenders to the giant mechanical spider. After all, that’s enough to keep even the most dedicated fence-jumper away.
