Flume is sitting on top of the world right now. Well, actually he’s inside the triple j studios having just dusted off his Like A Version performance, but either way, the talented young gun from Sydney is officially owning 2016 thanks to what many are calling the album of the year, a bunch of ARIAs and other awards, and a string of sold-out gigs.

However, his star-studded Like A Version cover of Ghost Town DJs’ ‘My Boo’, featuring a vocal dream team of Kučka, Vera Blue, and Ngaiire, as well as the one and only Vince Staples laying down the bars, has been receiving what we’ll for all intents and purposes call mixed reviews.

“‘The award winning’ Flume and Vince Staples were the most arrogant act on like a version in its history disappointing,” one self-appointed critic wrote on the triple j Facebook page. “Well that was a massive let down after looking forward to it for a week,” another echoed.

“Well that was hard to get through,” yet another wrote, whilst some commenters reserved their criticism for Mr. Staples, who admittedly looked as though the last thing he wanted to be doing at this hour was be awake. “Vince looks like he’s loving life and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” one commenter wrote.

However, there were plenty of listeners who loved the very Flumed-up remix of the original. “Very well done, so tidy, just what I expect from Flume,” one commenter wrote. “If you don’t like this there is something wrong with you,” another added. However, the biggest endorsement was easily: “Running late to work bc I was sitting in the car listening to this!”

Not too long ago we ran through a few of our favourite Like A Version covers of the year so far, including Sarah Blasko’s incredible David Bowie cover, Guy Sebastian linking up with Paces, and Hey Geronimo mashing up Courtney Barnett and Regurgitator.
