It’s December, so it’s the season of stats. Everyone’s posting them, from Spotify to Facebook and Google, and we’re pretty sure Santa has his data analytics team providing a (snow) white paper of insights on which global regions and demographics have been naughty and which have been nice in order to expedite gift delivery.

YouTube are no different. They’ve just unveiled their end-of-year stats for their most popular videos of 2016 for Australia and wouldn’t you know it, Halsey’s triple j Live A Version cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ was one of the highest trending videos of the year. The cover was in fact the eighth most popular vid of the year with more than 4.7 million views.

If you’ll recall, we actually labelled Halsey’s Like A Version appearance the most un-triple j Like A Version cover ever. After all, it featured a mainstream pop star (Halsey) covering perhaps the biggest and most mainstream pop star on the planet (Justin Bieber) whilst wearing the T-shirt of another major pop star (Kanye West)… on triple j.

The rest of YouTube’s top 10 end-of-year list pretty much belonged to James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, that corny segment of his talk show where he gets celebrities to sing their own songs as he drives them aimlessly around LA or somewhere. It’s really no surprise this kind of virality bait topped the countdown and comprised almost half the list.
