While we can all respect the effort that goes into penning a seven-minute opus, sometimes there’s just as much artistry involved in knowing when enough is enough, and cutting your new song off at the knees.

Sydney duo Polish Club have done just that on their recent choon ‘Beat Up’, a raucous thrash that doesn’t even make it to the three-minute mark. It never hurts to leave your audience wishing for more, and in that spirit, Polish Club have run us through their five favourites tracks of all time.

If you’re down for a fast and sweaty gig, they’re currently midway through their national tour, with the remaining dates below.

You Am I – ‘Cathy’s Clown’

“This Aussie bloody anthem is a little over two minutes, but nothing much happens in the first 20 seconds. They could have easily returned to another verse and chorus after the bridge – but it’s cool that they don’t.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers – ‘Right On Time’

“Even if you don’t play bass or understand how it works (four strings is a lot, eh), listen to that chorus bassline. Try typing on your keyboard that fast. TRY IT. U FKN CANT MATE.”

Royal Headache – ‘Girls’

“So fast that there’s no way they could play it any longer than it is.”

Weezer – ‘You Give My Love To Me Softly’

“Weezer Comes in hot and, like, really goddamn loud. You gave your love to me softly, and I’m giving mine back to your earholes – real, real hard.”

Bad Brains – ‘Pay to Cum’

“The best song ever from probably the best band ever.”
