Northeast Party House used a Corner Hotel Instagram take over last night to prank everyone, by “announcing” seven intimate Radiohead shows, to take place in May.

Not surprisingly the Internet went into overdrive, the post was quickly pulled, and The Corner Hotel are probably rethinking their social media strategy.

It was the perfect prank. For one, it looks official, it doesn’t use any language that the Corner wouldn’t, and it’s quite conceivable that Radiohead would do something like this in Australia, as opposed to playing bigger shows. Thom Yorke loves popping up in small clubs for surprise DJ sets, so this would make sense.

Although the Corner Hotel announced the Northeast Party House takeover earlier in the day, casual Instagram users scrolling their feed aren’t likely to be aware of this, plus it’s usually screenshots of Instagram posts that go viral. Triple M bit, and reported on the shows, which no doubt spread the story a lot further.

Well done, Northeast Party House. Sorry, Radiohead fans. Here’s ‘Karma Police’ for comfort.
