Sad news for Aussie hardcore fans out there today, as Melbourne outfit Storm The Sky have announced that their drummer Alex Trail will be leaving them very soon, and won’t be replaced following his departure.

Alex and the band delivered the emotional announcement via Facebook video, letting their fans know that he’ll be stepping back from the group after a decade together to focus on other parts of his life.

“I’ve had the great and humbling pleasure of saying that I’m now friends with a lot of the people who inspired me to start this band,” he says, just one of the many goals the band have reached together.

“I’m at a point where I can confidently say that I’ve gotten everything that I really wanted to out of this experience, and it has been absolutely amazing”, he adds, “but now, 10 years down, I can’t see myself continuing in this particular lifestyle or in the industry.”

Alex goes on to note the exciting things happening in his life outside of the band, pointing out that they’ll all be “moving on as friends”, before thanking his family, friends, and record label UNIFIED – who are appropriately enough hosting his final show as a member of the band this weekend.

The band have also released a statement on Alex’s departure, pointing out that they won’t be looking for a permanent replacement, and instead will be bringing on various friends to fill his shoes when required, which they did when Alex was unable to play the band’s recent tour in support of The Used.

“It is with a sore heart that we have to let you all know that our long time drummer Trail (Alex) will be leaving the band due to personal and career endeavours in his life that he’s moving on to, and that we’re extremely excited and happy to get behind and support,” them band have said.

“Trail has been our brother for the last 10 years and so we will dearly miss having him around. We’re all still close mates and wish him all the best in the future.

“With that said, we will be continuing as a four piece and won’t be looking for a new drummer. Alex is an amazing friend and musician and we can’t imagine replacing him anytime soon. Instead we’ll be involving and jamming with musicians that we respect and hold as dear friends. We have a lot of exciting things in the works so stay tuned!”

The band’s show at the upcoming UNIFY Gathering will be Alex’s last, but Storm The Sky will be continuing on to play a run of all-ages gigs in March – gear yourselves up for one emotional gig with their newly-released clip below, ‘Wake Up Sleeping’.
