After a very long time away, possibly due to embarking on some sort of cosmic voyage (or more likely Jay Kay’s just been tooling around in his famous garage of supercars), British interstellar funk-pop outfit Jamiroquai are finally teasing a return.

A new video titled ‘#AUTOMATON TRANSMISSION 001’ has just been dropped and, while it’s only 20-odd seconds long, it seems to hint at influences along the lines of the ’80s horror/sci fi synth that’s been popularised again recently by shows like Stranger Things, with imagery is along the same creepy lines.

The last we heard of them was way back in 2010 when they dropped their seventh album Rock Dust Light Star, which didn’t quite reach the commercial heights of their glory days.

Apparently it’s been a bit of a slog bringing this album to light, Express reports, with drummer Derrick McKenzie mentioning the record in 2013 and bassist Paul Turner announcing its completion in May last year.

Not moving as quickly as you’d expect, then, the return of the space cowboys, but you can see the first glimpse of this long-awaited new record below.
