Metallica’s 1988 classic ‘One’ is simultaneously one of the band’s most pretty and most brutal songs, and the version they unleashed in Beijing on Wednesday night veered towards the pretty end of the spectrum, thanks to the brilliant addition of Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang.

This isn’t the first time the band have teamed with Lang Lang for ‘One’ – you may remember their performance from the 2014 Grammys, which they later called, “one of the most creative, unique performances of our career.” And this is a band who recorded an entire live album with the San Fransisco Symphony.

Watch fan footage of the performance below. Warning: Darkness imprisons Hetfield during the latter half of this performance.
