Sydney deathcore heroes Thy Art Is Murder have been at the forefront of Australia’s metal scene for roughly a decade now. Back in 2015, they announced they had parted ways with vocalist Chris ‘CJ’ McMahon, but have now surprised fans by announcing his return to the group, along with a new track to celebrate with.
Forming in 2006, Thy Art Is Murder released a handful of tracks with original vocalist Brendan van Ryn before recruiting CJ McMahon, who would go on to become their best known frontman.
In December of 2015, citing a desire to be with family and stress of touring, McMahon left the group, leaving the group without a vocalist. McMahon’s departure left the band unable to find a new, permanent singer, with the group recruiting a number of different frontmen during his absence, including Triple J’s The Racket host Lochlan Watt.
After a surprise reappearance at last week’s UNIFY Gathering, fans were curious as to whether this would result in a full-time reunion, or further appearances with the band.
Thankfully, fans didn’t have to wait too long to find out, with the group taking to Facebook yesterday to make a joyful statement in regards to McMahon’s return.
“After months of working things out, gaining his voice back, and mending wounded friendships, we are overwhelmed with excitement to announce that we have completed writing for a new record to be released later this year, featuring the one and only Christopher John McMahon. Welcome back CJ!”
In addition to McMahon’s return, Thy Art Is Murder have announced a new record to be released later in the year, much to the delight of the group’s fans.
While we don’t yet have many details about a new album, the group have decided to release a new track in celebration of the announcement. Check out Thy Art Is Murder’s newest track, ‘No Absolution’, below.
