“Painting to music is like the wind moving a cloud, it gives you a majestic push in the right direction” – Christopher Horder

Dobell Prize finalist Christopher Horder has brought to life HOLY HOLY’s single ‘Shadow’ with a canvas painting. It’s all part of a project curated by the local band and Australian expressionist painter, James Drinkwater.

It’s quite a brilliant concept really; Painting To PAINT sees four local artists, curated by Drinkwater, bring to the canvas four songs from the band’s second album, PAINT.  Inspired by ‘Shadow’, Horder’s process of creation from blank canvas to completion was filmed and edited by award-winning local director, Charlie Ford.

The track itself ebbs and flows between beautifully drawn instrumental ventures and breezy reverb that err on the side of ambient. The video, meanwhile, shows the beauty of the track’s textures in a literal sense.

Horder takes us through the physicality of his process while offering a rare insight into his perception of ‘Shadows’. Watch it for the time-lapse editing, which shows off just how physical an artist’s work is, and for Horder’s pit-stop to play a Trumpet.

‘Shadow’ is lifted from HOLY HOLY’s second album PAINT, out Friday (February 24) and available for pre-order now.
