It’s usually a fairly good sign of a bad impersonation when someone has to drop the name of who they are channelling into the impression.

Andy Samberg took this one step further while doing his Eddie Vedder impersonation at this weekend’ Spirit Award, incorporating a namecheck into his version of Pearl Jam hit ‘Alive’.

“I’m Eddie Vedder and I love the Cubs. My voice sounds exactly like this”, Samberg offers, dressed like Vedder circa-91, with flowing curls, a jumper tied around his waist, and cargo shorts.

The song was performed as a tribute to the celebrities who managed to not die in 2016, including Fred Armisen, Matt Damon, and Tim Allen. It’s not one of Samberg’s more successful impressions, but it works regardless – or perhaps, due to this.
