Well, this is certainly a pretty great, albeit unexpected, combination. Sydney neo-folk/soul artist Dustin Tebbutt impressed us last year with debut effort First Light, while renowned folk singer-songwriter Lisa Mitchell returned in 2016 with a sleeker pop sound on her third studio album Warriors and lead single ‘The Boys’, and now they’re joining forces for a double-header tour across the country.

The ‘Distant Call’ tour will see the new pairing take to the road throughout June and July, and they’ll be performing together over a specially-formed 100-minute set, hand-picking songs from each other’s repertoires.

“I’ll be playing some of Lisa’s music with her and she’ll be adding her magic to some of my songs,” Dustin explains to triple j. “I think it’s going to be a really special run of shows.”

“It already feels like the show is going to be something totally different!” Lisa adds. “When Dustin and I were brainstorming the name of the tour, I suggested, ‘New Phone, Who Dis?’ Don’t know why he didn’t go for it…”

But alas, they settled on ‘Distant Call’, which fits in a little better with the cosmic designs of Tebbutt’s debut, not to mention the excellent support act in Sydney’s Alex The Astronaut, whose anticipated debut EP is yet to drop.

It’s all very much come out of left field, but this is the sort of collaboration we can more than get behind when it rolls around this June, dates below.
