After Joey Jordison was unceremoniously fired from Slipknot, ex-Against Me! drummer Jay Weinberg got the call to audition.

Only thing is, as Weinberg now explains, he basically took the interview for a free flight to L.A. and had no real idea which band he was even trying out for.

Weinberg told the tale on the Best Friends With Sam Pura podcast. “I wasn’t told what it was gonna be, but just like, ‘Can you please come out and audition for this thing?’ with no other information other than that.

“It was like, ‘Well, yeah why wouldn’t I go check that out?’ Like, what’s the worst thing that could happen? I get a free flight to L.A. or something?”

Weinberg obviously impressed, and has been the drummer for Slipknot since 2014. His father Max Weinberg has drummed for the E Street Band since 1974.
