Plenty of people were upset to miss out on tickets to this year’s fast-selling Splendour in the Grass festival, but compared to the trauma experienced by the victims of flooding caused by Cyclone Debbie several weeks back, concerns like those seem trivial.

The Northern Rivers of NSW were ravaged by floodwaters, with unprecedented damage caused to the communities of Lismore, Byron and Tweed Shires, leaving people without homes as the long period of cleanup and repair continues.

Now, Splendour are stepping up to the plate to help, auctioning off 50 gold passes to the festival to raise money for the victims of the flood.

“Splendour is proud to call Northern NSW home and many of our event team live and operate businesses across the Lismore, Byron and Tweed Shires,” an official statement by Splendour in the Grass co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco reads.

“It has been heartbreaking to see the flood damage on such a huge scale and also to hear so many stories of loss. We hope that this fundraising initiative will provide assistance to those who need it most.”

Starting on Tuesday May 2 at 9am and concluding on Friday May 5 at 9pm (AEST), fifty special VIP ‘Flood Relief Gold Passes’ will be up for grabs on the official website, with a new batch auctioned off each day, starting at $500 each.

These passes are offering a package not usually available to the general public, with access to Splendour’s VIP Gold Bar, side-of-stage viewing at the Ampitheatre stage, and access to the Golden View Bar, with a brilliant view of the main stage.

A few things to note for any eager punters are that the passes are 18+ only, and camping is no longer available, so you’ll need to make alternate sleeping arrangements.

Otherwise, this is one more chance to grab one of the most in-demand tickets around, and make a big difference to the people who will be doing it a lot harder than the rest of us this festival season.

If you already have your ticket and would like to donate to the cause regardless, you can do so over at the website – the full details of where the proceeds will be going can be found below.

Byron Shire – Mullumbimby & District Neighbourhood Centre Inc.

“Times of crisis make us connect even more to our community. Businesses, council, organisations and the community become one in our actions and responses to our great challenges. I’m stoked to learn of our home grown festival and its staff adding to this response – especially for those in Byron’s north who have been hit hard and largely forgotten so far by the Federal government. Good on ya Splendour!”

– Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson

Lismore Council Flood Appeal

“We are thrilled that Splendour in the Grass has come on board to help our flood appeal and our community. The level of devastation left by this flood was unprecedented and it will take weeks and months for our city and our community to recover. The Lismore Flood Appeal funds will help those worst-affected by the natural disaster to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.”

– Lismore Mayor, Isaac Smith

Tweed Mayor Appeal Fund

“100% of funds raised by the Mayor Appeal Fund will be distributed to local residents and businesses affected by the floods – there are no administration fees. We will be appointing an independent Committee, who will join me and Council’s Internal Auditor, to review applications for assistance. The priority focus will be on those people and businesses who have limited access or options to insurance claims, funding or grants and due to this are more likely to slip through the gaps.”

– Tweed Mayor, Katie Milne
