While its sister venue in Sydney, the Newtown Social Club, said a sad farewell recently (and soon to be reopened as an indoor mini-golf venue), Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club is set to pick up the slack by giving punters a free gig every week.

Kicking off on Monday May 29, the ‘Wind It Up’ series will pack three local bands each week, from emerging to established acts – and they’re starting off on the right foot with a lineup of Ausmuteants, Constant Mongrel and The Faculty.

They’ve done really nicely putting local faves Ausmuteants on as their first headliner of sorts, and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on who else they’ve got planned in the coming weeks and months – although free live bands is a win regardless.

The organisers reckon the night will “turn any ‘how shit are Mondays’ frown upside down”, and it’s hard to argue with that. Cheap jugs and parmas are also on the cards, which helps.

You can get more info here, and if your band is interested in jumping on the bill, shoot the night an email at [email protected].
