In a candid interview with NME, ex-Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things songwriter/ guitarist Carl Barat has revealed that his excessive use of drugs and alcohol provided a ‘comfort zone’ which eventually saw the downfall of Dirty Pretty Things.

He stated “I found myself in what can only be referred to as a comfort zone. A leather jacket, skinny jeans, bottle of whisky, coke, knowing I could play a few Libertines songs and ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’ to a dwindling and increasingly disappointed audience. That’s a hard thing to realise.”

After the meagre interest in their 2008 release ‘Romance at Short Notice’, Barat broke up the band, which eventually led him to what was to be a much needed career re-direction, writing a self-titled solo album and a memoir, detailing much of The Libertines’ reunion.

So now with new material under his skinny leather belt, we’re hoping to see more great things from the former dirty, but still very pretty Barat.
