Several weeks after making Susan Boyle cry by refusing to let her perform ‘Perfect Day’ on America’s Got Talent, it looks like Lou Reed has given in to the prospect of the royalties to be accumulated by allowing her to record the song on her latest CD of bored housewife tunes. Grumpy Uncle Lou has given the go ahead for SuBo, the frumpy Scottish spinster with the voice of an angel, to record his song along with overwrought covers of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and Crowded House’s ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’.

Her forthcoming Christmas CD, The Gift, also contains her murdering Christmas songs and she threatens: “I wanted there to be a mix of songs that would flow with all our moods this holiday season.” God help us. We can only hope that she discovers Lou Reed’s oeuvre in the process, and her next offering will contain covers of The Velvet Underground’s ode to drugs ‘Heroin’; and bondage celebration masterpiece ‘Venus In Furs’.
