This is why events un-nerve us down at Tone Deaf HQ. Despite our clever Joy Division reference from the song ‘Ceremony’ in the first sentence there, we’re quite unsure about the news that the band’s former bass player, Peter Hook, is currently re-recording some of his old band’s songs for release. According to an interview Hooky had published this week, he’s planning to record an EP of Joy Division songs with the Happy Mondays’ former backing vocalist Rowetta doing vocals.

According to Hook; “The versions of the songs with Rowetta have a really nice quality. [She] wants us to record an EP of the four [Joy Division songs] that she sings [live].” These are ‘Insight’, ‘New Dawn Fades’, ‘Atmosphere’, and an unreleased song called ‘Pictures’, which Hooky apparently recovered from a demo Ian Curtis recorded. “So we’re going to do [that].” Sometimes, some things should just be left alone.
