James ‘JK’ Kennedy left school at 16 to be a pro skateboarder. Then he got kicked off the Nike team and spent years as a petty drug dealer. Three years ago, he taught himself to read. In 2011, JK sang onstage for the first time. Teenage Mothers was born.

In May, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince watched Teenage Mothers’ homemade video on Youtube. Three months after playing their first gig, Teenage Mothers were invited to tour Australia with The Kills. JK gave free nitrous oxide to the crowds and did full backflips off nine foot barriers.

The debut single is ‘Orlando and Miranda’. It’s about beautiful untalented people living in luxury, while ordinary-looking people become junkies and homeless bums.

On Saturday 17th September, Teenage Mothers headline the Cherry Bar. Special guests are metalhead weirdos The Beasticles, haunting post-punkers Jackals and searing UK/NZ duo Ghetto Ghetto. Plus Australia’s gnarliest and nuttiest skate crew, POON, DJing everything from gay techno to Jimmy Buffett.
